Mass for Thelma Kernan is Wednesday

Thelma Mary Kernan passed away Friday, May 4, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Born January 8, 1922 in Illinois to Frank and Eliza Chapman, Thelma lived most of her life, in Akron where she Garfield High School. She worked at the Firestone Country Club for over 25 years.

Thelma married the love of her life, Joe, and together they had three daughters. A kind and loving mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother Thelma loved her family, and also found joy in her gardening and her love of flowers. Everybody who met her loved her. She was a member of St. Mary Parish and later in her life a member of St. Paul's. She was a long time member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Preceded in death by husband Joe; sister, Lyndall Rea; and brothers, Tom, Robert, Don and Ken Chapman. Thelma is survived by daughters, Mary Ann (Tom) Harvey, Sharon (Lance) Davis, and Colleen (Stuart) Adams. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Tom (Monica), Tim (Michelle) Harvey, and Kate (Aaron) Beckstedt, Laron and Sean (Katie) Davis, Zachary (Kelli) and Carrie Adams; and 10 great-grandchildren as well as sisters, JoAnn (Bill Forrer) and Alberta Hinkle; and brother, Cliff (Peg) Chapman.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant St.) where the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians will recite the rosary at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St., Akron, Ohio. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
