The Peter Maurin Center was crowded as usual but the Thanksgiving Day dinner was more sumptuous than usual. Susie Gatian, coordinator of the St. Paul volunteers who provide lunch once a month, said they prepared five turkeys and four hams, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casseroles, corn, deviled eggs, salad, rolls and the tradidtionall pumpkin pies and pumpkin rolls, Gardner Pies furnished 20 pies.Fr. Ralph Thomas, pastor of St. Paul, joined the group and led them in reciting things for which they were thankful. Don Roese (at left), a retired Beacon Journal photographer and veteran volunteer at the center, coordinated the efforts. There were a number of the St. Paul volunteers helping to serve the "clients" which is what they call the homeless.
