October PTO session agenda was full

The October meeting of St. Paul PTO was full of news. Principal Brodbeck reported on the Walk-A-Thon, Academic Showcase, Tigers for Life and other school events. Two new proosals were presented for a vote at the November session and purchase of gym equipment was approved.

Mr. Brodbeck's Report

Walk-A-Thon: Mr. Brodbeck announced that proceeds from the Walk-a-thon were moe than $14,000. He thanked the PTO, parents, and staff for their involvement and help. There has been a lot of positive feedback about the event and some students request that next year we walk even farther! Students voted for the charity they would like to sponsor with Walk funds. They overwhelmingly chose the Pregnancy Center. The top three pledge totals will be awarded Visa Gift Cards. The firstt grade will be awarded a Pizza Party for the highest average pledge per student. Incentive awards will be delivered to students this week.

Academic Showcase: There will be an all-day “Academic Showcase” throughout the school on November 16. Students' work will be on display that evening in the Parish Activdty Center. This event is being planned by the faculty.

Tigers for Life: A representative from Right to Life came to speak about the Pro Life Youth Congress. The group will be called “Tigers for Life”. Suxth grade teacher Krsistin Ms. Konopka has volunteered to work with interested sixth, seventh and eighth grders who want to join. Parent volunteers also will be needed. Right to Life will support the new group. The Knights of Columbus will donate funds for the start up materials. All educational materials are age appropriate. There are currently 40 youth chapters in Ohio. This is a peer run and peer led group of young people who value and respect life in all its stages.

Parent-Teacher conferences: Conferences will be on November 1 3 to 5 p.m.5 and Novemer 3 from 3 to 8 p.m.

Proposals for November vote

Two proposals were presented and will be voted pm at the next meeting on Thursday, November 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Boeke Hall.

A proposal was brought by members of the PTO to pay for the Tiger Mascot costume that was purchased with Mr. Brodbeck’s petty cash in October. The total cost of the costume was $373.28. This proposal will be up for vote during the November meeting.

A second proposal was made on behalf of Ms. Ehasz for a Smart Board and laptop for the Computer Lab. Not only will it be used for the computer classes, but the classroom teachers could also utilize it during open computer time. It would also be an asset to workshops that could be held in the lab. The Smart Board quote is $3,042 and the laptop quote is $1,579.50 for a total of $4,621.50. This proposal will be up for vote during the November meeting.

Happy Birthday Jesus Plans
Nicole Podobnik is the chairperson for the Happy Birthday, Jesus / Breakfast With Santa event. She would like to add a new aspect to the celebration this year called Kids Helping Kids. that will provie a collection of new, small gifts for the children at Haven of Rest. The gifts should be small enough to fit into a book bag and should not be too expensive since the children are homeless and/or vulnerable. To encourage the most participation, donors will be entered into a raffle at the breakfast. A list of suggested items will be issued. The gifts will be given to children that are 3-10 years old. Gifts should be in the $5-10 range

Other business
The Fourth grade won the PTO membership drive contest. They will be awarded with a Pizza Party in November.

The PTO members in attendance voted to approved teacher Chrisine Ehasz’s gym equipment proposal that was discussed during the September meeting. The equipment will cost $1,232.90,.

The Treasurer’s report by Celeste Shaffer showed deposits since the last meeting totaled $1,893.92 (Market Day / PTO memberships / Save Around fundraisr/ Walk-a-Thon shirt orders). Expenses over the last month totaled $2,088.75 (Tiger Mascot / Walk-a-Thon shirt order / Toner-Paper reimbursement / DJ deposit for Fall Family Dance)

Some one from PTO needs to check out the Smart Board that is in Miss Means old classroom on the top floor of the school. It is not being used and there are also some laptops. Check it out before you buy. There are no classrooms being used except for PSR classes and Akron After School events. If this board is working, it could be used for the computer lab.
