comprehensive immigration policy change would include a worker program allowing people to enter the country legally to do work needed here. It would also include apathway to citizenship for the 12 million people who are in the country illegally. Our Catholic faith calls us to advocate for a comprehensive and humane solution to this
problem. We cannot standby and watch as our brothers and sisters in Christ are exploited and dehumanized as they struggle to survive. We need to promote justice for
immigrants and stand in solidarity with them; we are all one family under God.

While I sympathize with the plight of the immigrant, we should be standing in solidarity with our own homeless and jobless in Akron. Why is it as Catholics, we always want to help those outside of our own area. When I look at what The Chapel does for those less fortunate in the Akron area it would seem to me that charity and understanding begin at home. An American has to go through so much more to get help from their own country then an illegal alien. I know from personal experience which is why I have agreed to help those from our own community. Our homeless are exploited everyday and our few jobs go to the illegals in our country. I am all for helping the world but can we do this correctly when our own country, state, city, and neighborhoods are going without. When was the last time St. Paul's sponsored food baskets for the poor? I know for a fact that there are people right in our parish who must go elsewhere for help. Yes, we do blankets and we give tomotoe soup to an area church but does this directly affect St. Paul's folks who are in need? Yes, immagration is a moral issue but above all it is a legal issue. I know many immigrants in this country legally and know how long it took them for the process. I alsoo know how long the process took for me to get welfare and assistance for my family to help us. Shelters don't take families. So if you are a family with a husband and son they must live oon the street. What is wrong with this scenerio?
I agree with the statement above it's very true. We need to let the justice system try and figure it out the best we can and as much as I hate to say it there is a division of church and state. I completely agree that if the immigrants are here legally they should be treated with the proper respect we treat our normal citizens. Oh and I think we need to get all our homeless brothers and sisters jobs before we pass legislation to help people coming into our country.
