Fr. Cimperman, retired Christ the King pastor, dies

The Reverend Victor J. Cimperman, Pastor Emeritus of Christ the King Parish,
died Tuesday (November 15) after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments. Fr. Cimperman, 94, was a priest for 67 years.

Victor J. Cimperman was born June, 13, 1917 to the late Joseph and Mary (nee
Zakrajsek) Cimperman. He was educated at St. Vitus Elementary School, Cathedral
Latin School, John Carroll University and St. Mary Seminary. He was ordained on December 18, 1943,by Bishop Edward F. Hoban.

Father Cimperman was named Pastor of Christ the King Parish in Akron on September 12, 1967. He retired June 21, 1987.

Christ the King Parish closed November 29. 2009 when the parish meged with St. Martha Parish to form Blessed Trinity Parish at the St. Martha site, 300 E. Tallmadge Ave.

Father Cimperman's first assignment was as parochial vicar at St. Clement Parish in
Lakewood. On July 1, 1946 he was transferred to St. Mary Parish in Collinwood where he served as parochial vicar until January 7, 1955. He was then appointed parochial vicar at St. Vitus Parish where he served until June 21, 1960. On June 21, 1960 Father Cimperman was appointed parochial vicar at St. Lawrence Parish in Cleveland. On June 14, 1962 he was appointed parochial vicar at St. Christine Parish in Euclid where he served until June 10, 1965 when he was appointed parochial vicar at St. Vitus Parish in Cleveland.

He was brother of Ann Strazar (Tony) and the following all deceased: Mary Cimperman, Joseph (Majda), Anthony (Frances) and Frank. Father Cimperman was a cherished uncle of 18 nieces and nephews, great-uncle of 35 and great-great-uncle of two who all new him as their dear 'Fr. Vic.'

Vespers will be Friday (November 18) at 3 p. m. in St. Vitus Church, 6019
Lasuche Ave., Cleveland. Vespers will be celebrated by Most Reverend Roger W.
Gries. The Wake will continue after Vespers in St. Vitus Church until 7 p. m. The
Funeral Mass will be Saturday (November 19)O in St, Vitus Church at 11 a. m.
Most Reverend A. Edward Pevec will be the main celebrant and homilist. Burial
following the Funeral Mass will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.
