A blog Commentary
The Beacon Journal, unfortunately on All Saints Day, this morning caught up with the news about Fr. Matthew Ischay.
The blog reported the same news on Monday, October 24. Our report said:
“The civil suit against Fr. Matthew Ischay in Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court has been dismissed by the plaintiff due to the expiration of the statue of limitatiions, but he remains on administrative leave pending a review by the Review Board of the Cleveland Diocese, according to Robert Tayek, spokesman for the diocese.”
(See our report)
Saint Paul TODAY had hoped our October 24 article would prevent the spread of rumors which gave the false impression that Fr. Ischay had been cleared of the charges. People often hear only what they would like to hear. As late as yesterday, parishioners were asking why we did not report when he would return to his duties at St. Paul.
Those who need more details can read the report by religion writer Colette M. Jenkins which was the lead story on the Community Section front. See the story. Colette is both objective and thorough and among the top reporters at the newspaper.
Please, however, read the story carefully for what it states and not what you would like it to state.
We all love Fr. Matt. Many signed a “Thank You” card for him on Priesthood Sunday. As always the best thing you can do is to pray for him.

Not only is it just plain wrong what the Beacon printed (and one-sided as usual), it should not have been blasted all over the blog. That just made the gossip flames burn stronger.
I agree with anonymus. there are just certain things that should remain off the blog. The sad thing is I know the truth and the Beacon nor the diocese has told the truth at all. A good man's reputation has been so severly uprooted and tarnished by someone's nonsense that he will never recover from it. This was all a mess from day one with absolutely no record in Cuy. County Common Pleas Court of any lawsuit being filed against either Fr. Matt or the diocese. Furthermore, if the statue of limitations applies then there should have never been any monies paid out by the diocese for any of these so called abuse cases as most of them happened in the 70's and 80's. The statue certainly applied to them as well. Its a shame because parishers will never know the truth at all. Fr. Matt has mainained his innonocene from day one nad we as a parish need to continue to pray and support him as much as possible. Stop crucifying the man.
Please tell us how YOU know the truth and why the Diocese is not telling the truth. Just because YOU could find nothing does not mean there is not a record in court. Colette had no trouble locating it.
You can say anything signing it anonymous. Please just pray for Fr. Matt.
The author of the blog does his best to keep the parish informed and as a reminder, many parishes on have the church bulletin to keep parishioner's informed. However, this is his blog and he can post on it whatever he wants. I trust that all articles related to Fr. Matt, receive pastoral review or approval.
I believe the story was very one sided and Colette Jenkins and The Beacon did a disservice to its readers by publishing. I pray for all that the truth comes out and I pray that Fr. Matt will be cleared of all charges and he will forgive those who doubted him.
