Suit against Fr. Matt dropped, he remains on leave

The civil suit against Fr. Matthew Ischay in Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court has been dismissed by the plaintiff due to the expiration of the statue of limitatiions, but he remains on administrative leave pending a review by the Review Board of the Cleveland Diocese, according to Robert Tayek, spokesman for the diocese

A statute of limitations is an enactment in a common law legal system that sets the maximum time after an event that legal proceedings based on that event may be initiated.

The suit was filed August 12 in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court alleging sexual misconduct with a minor in the late 1970s. Fr. Ischay was placed on administrative leave on August 26.

While on leave, Fr. Ischay may not perform ministry, wear clerical attire or reside on parish property.

Please read the entire sentence which indicates that the information came from Robert Tayek, spokesman for he diocese. There is no statue of limitations in a criminaal suit, but this was a civil suit. Fr. Matt is still on administrative leave while the Diocesan Review Board completes its study.
