Have you ever wondered what happened to a former St. Paul associate (parochial vicar)? Let us take you on a quest to locate those who are still living–dating back more than a half century. Here’s our list with dates they served but not all their assignments since leaving St. Paul:

Lawrence Bayer 1958-1963

Fr. Bayer was ordained May 24, 1958l His first assignment was at St. Paul from August 12, 1958 to June 13, 1963. He was named pastor at St. Bridget February 21, 1976 and retired on January 31, 2005.



Paul J. Rosing 1973-1978

Fr. Rosing was ordained June 9, 1973. His first assignment was at St. Paul from July 5, 1973 to June 13, 1978. He was named pastor of Holy Family on December 20, 2010



George Smiga 1975
St. Noel, 35200 Chardon Rd., Willoughby Hills, OH 44094 (440) 946-0887
He was ordained June 14, 1975 and apparently served briefly at St. Paul in 1975 as a deacon. His first assignment is listed as St. Clare from October 30, 1975 to September 1, 1981. He was appointed pastor of St. Noel on April 9, 1991.

David Halaiko 1976-77

He was ordained May 20, 1967. His first assignment was at St. Anne (1967-1973). He served at St. Paul from June 24, 1976 to July 1, 1977 when he went to Nativity as administrator. He was appointed pastor of Nativity on June 24, 1980.



Charles Ryba 1977-1982

He was ordained May 31, 1969. His first assignment was at SS Cyril and Methodius in Barberton 1969-1973 and also served at St. Peter in North Ridgeville 1973-1997 before coming to St. Paul. He served at St. Paul from September 29, 1977 to June 30, 1982. He was named pastor at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton on March 15, 1993.

Charles Diedrick 1978-82

He was ordained June 10, 1978. His first assignment was at St. Paul from June 29, 1978 to December 7, 1982. He was appointed pastor of St. Mary on October 19, 2009.



Stephen Vallenga 1982-87

He was ordained June 13, 1981 and was in graduate studies in 1981-82 before coming to St. Paul. He served at St. Paul from June 30, 1982 to July 20, 1987 when he left to serve the mission in El Salvador from July 1987 to June 1995. He was appointed pastor of St. Mary on July 1, 1997. He also has served as director of the Propagation of the Faith since July 1, 2003.

James Klein 1983-87

He was ordained January 14, 1978. His first assignment was at St. Mary in Berea (1978-1983) before coming to St. Paul. He served at St. Paul from January 6, 1983 to October 1, 1987. He has been a parochial vicar on the staff at St. Charles Borromeo since June 8, 2010.

Richard Evans 1987-1992

He was ordained Jun 12, 1982. His first assignment was at St. Mary in Chardon from June 30, 1982 to July 1, 1987. He then served at St. Paul from July 1, 1987 to June 23, 1992. He was appointed pastor on October 6, 2009


Albert Kunkel 1990-1991

He was ordained May 18, 1957, His first assignment was at St. Vincent de Paul in Cleveland from June 13, 1957 to June 14, 1962. He served at St. Paul from June 19, 1990 to September 9, 1991 before going to Sacred Heart in Barberton where he served from September 9, 1991 until his retirement on June 30, 2001

Steven Burnovsky 1992-1997

He was ordained May 30, 1992 and his first assignment was at St. Paul from June 23, 1992 to June 17, 1997. He also served at Std. Mary in Hudson and St. Francis Xavier before he was appointed pastor on March 15, 2007.



Robert Stein 1997-2002

He was ordained June 13, 1981, His first assignment was at Our Lady of Peace from June 29, 1981 to June 24, 1986. He served at St. Anthony 1986-1991 and was at St. Francis de Sales twice, once before coming to St. Paul 1991-1997 and after his assignment at St. Paul 2002-2007. He served St. Paul from June 17, 1997 to June 12, 2002.. He was named pastor at SS Peter & Paul on June 5, 2007.
