Bread for World Sunday

October 16 is Bread for the World Sunday -- an opportunity to renew our commitment to ending hunger in God's world. President Obama and Congress are engaged in intense debate about the federal budget. Many of the cuts that have been proposed will have severe consequences for hungry and poor people in the United States and around the world. Some decisions about federal spending were made this summer, but debate will continue throughout the fall session of Congress. Along with church partners like JustFaith and other hunger organizations, Bread for the World is urging Congress to form a "circle of protection" around vital programs that help hungry people. It is urgent that people of faith communicate to members of Congress that funding remains in place for time-tested, cost-effective programs that address the causes of hunger. Our elected leaders must deal with budget deficits and the growing national debt, but a responsible deficitreduction plan will address the true drivers of debt without cutting needed services or threatening the fragile economic recovery. St. Paul's parish will be participating again this year in Bread for the World's Offering of Letters. This event will take place October 29 & 30 in the
PAC after all Masses.
