Aleta Killian, a member of Nativity Parish in Green who sings in the Peace Together Choir which perfroms each year in the Tribute to Nurses Mass at St. Paul, will be singing in the Voices of Canton (VOCI) performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 23.
Voices of Canton will sing "A House Divided: A Commemoration of The War Between the States," featuring two seldom-performed and unpublished cantatas written in the mid-twentieth century by Richard Bales, director of the Orchestra at the Smithsonian National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The pieces, "The Confederacy" and "The Union" will be performed with full orchestra, soloists, choir, and speakers. They are comprised of music popular throughout the divided country during this most cataclysmic of all conflicts. This stirring and emotional concert, which includes Tenting Tonight, When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again and The Yellow Rose of Texas, promises to bring the Civil War, now in its sesquicentennial, vividly to mind. The performance will take place in the Great Court of the Cultural Center for the Arts, 1001 Market Ave N, Canton
