of us (corporations included) to be good stewards of the Earth and care for God's creation. The Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays are coming up fast. It's also a good time to pressure the airlines with poor environmental practices to up theirgame. In 2010, Green America's consumer watchdog team issued a report revealing that airline passengers generate over 881 million pounds of waste each year: 9,000
tons of plastic, enough aluminum cans to build 58 Boeing 747 jets, and enough newspaper and magazines to cover a football field 230 meters deep. 75% of this waste is recyclable, but only 20% is being recycled. Some airlines have responded to this report with real improvements and the industry is scheduled to release their own report in 2012 with recommendations for continued improvements. Before making any future travel plans check out the original report @ greenamerica.org/pdf/
airlinerecyclingreport.pdf. This will give you all the facts and figures on your favorite airline. They know you have a choice about who to fly with - so let them know that
their recycling record will influence your choice. Keep up to date on other environmental concerns at www.greenamerica.org.
