Fritz was born in Akron to Frank and Pauline (Keenan) Westen-barger on August 28, 1934. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years ,Patricia; daughters, Lynn
(Gary) Chrostowski, Rose (T.J.) Nall, Jean (Kevin) Wightman, Ann Westenbarger; and son, Fritz (Tammy) Westenbarger; grandchildren, Ryan (Monica), Adam (deceased), and Megan Nall, Kaitlyn and Faith Chrostowski, and Thomas Westenbarger; great-grandson, Jackson Nall; sisters, Loretta Snyder and Mickey (Don) Spagnuolo; many nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.He attended St. Martha's grade school and St. Mary's High School (1952) in Akron. He received a B.A. in Education from The University of Akron and taught in the Akron Public Schools for 35 years, mostly at Garfield High School teaching American History. After teaching he worked at the Village of St. Edward and as an usher for the Akron Aeros. Fritz was an active member of St. Paul's Parish where he was a Lector and Eucharistic minister. He volunteered as a member of St. Vincent DePaul and the Catholic Service League.
He enjoyed his family, teaching, reading, football, and traveling to historic sites. We all have such wonderful memories to cherish!
Thanks to the staff at the CYO Adult Day Care, Senior Helpers and Harbor Light Hospice. Most of all, we thank our mother Pat who took such loving care of dad as he battled Alzheimer's.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertez Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St., Akron, Ohio 44301. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to St. Paul Catholic School Endowment or The CYO Adult Day Care in Akron.
