common good without the elimination of collective bargaining. They are urging continued good faith in ongoing negotiations. Civility, open communication, mutual cooperation, and peaceful witness should characterize legislative actions and public discourse. In our faith tradition, defending the human dignity of every person includes promoting economic justice. This justice places the good of the person at the center of all economic activities. It stresses that the economy exists for the person, not the person for the economy. It challenges society to measure the moral effectiveness of our economic practices by how well they strengthen families and provide for the poor and vulnerable. This social doctrine has long recognized that all people have the right to economic initiative, to productive work, to just wages and benefits, to decent working conditions, to organize and join unions or otherassociations, and to engage in collective bargaining. May God's wisdom and prudence guide all of us on this important justice issue. (Taken from Catholic Conference of Ohio February 28, 2011 press release.)

As a member of the Akron Education Association, I can tell you the passage of SB5 will eliminate collective bargaining. It will take away what our forefarthers fought so hard for. As a teacher, I spend a great deal of time in my profession and a great deal of my own money to make sure every student is receiving the highest quality of education possible. Collective bargarning will eliminate merit raises and cost me more in health benefits which I need for my family.
I too am a member of the AEA. What I find so bazaar is that the blog appears to be more of a political sounding board for St. Paul's. I am just not sure of why this article about SB5 is on the blog.
I will not have a say in any kind of arrangment that the district will present with the passage of SB5. Talk about an injustice and all people at St. Paul's care about is fair trade coffee sales. Let's not use the blog for political affairs.
I am also a teacher with Akron Public Schools. I have attended many meetings through our union regarding SB5. It will without a doubt result in my not receiving any raises or possibly loosing my job. How does this help the economy and Social Justice expects us to buy food responsibly? Are they nuts? Please pray for all teachers as it appears that the SB5 is attempting to say teachers aren't worth a damn.
