He was born on Dec. 24, 1952 and ordained into the Cleveland Diocese as a Catholic Priest on June 9, 1979. Father celebrated his first mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Church on June 10, 1979. As a young priest he worked in the Cleveland area and went on to work for the Veteran's Administration as a chaplain. His political philosophy and faith contributed to his compassionate calling to work with those less fortunate.He served at St. Therese, Garfield Heights 1979, '80, '81, and Christ the King, 1982, '83. Father also served as a Chaplin, Ohio Army National Guard in 1982; VA Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich., 1983, and then in 1985, Boston, Mass. for 24 years.
Preceded in death by grandparents, Ora and Joseph McShane, and Jack and Mary Deluca, he is survived by parents, Patrick E. McShane, Sr., and Elizabeth (Deluca) McShane; siblings, Kathleen Strodtman of Cuyahoga Falls, Dr. Michael (Kim) McShane of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Marybeth (Kevin) Finan of Dublin, Ohio, Joseph B. McShane of Akron, Daniel (Jamie) McShane of Kent, Timothy (Mary) McShane of Stow and Anne Marie McShane of Maryland; his nieces and nephews who were a very important part of his life, Katie Peluso, Colin Finan, Erin Smith, Danny Finan, Heidi Strodtman, Molly Gedden, Jessica Leiby, Tommy McShane, Cody Strodtman, Christopher McShane, Megan McShane, Patrick McShane, Mallory Gray, Haley McShane, Jacob Gray, Matthew McShane, Angela McShane, Finnegan Smith and Beckett Smith.
Family and friends will gather Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (1905 Portage Tr., Cuyahoga Falls OH 44223) for Reception of the Body and Vespers at 3 p.m., with calling hours to continue until 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Saturday with Bishop Anthony Pilla as principal celebrant. Private inurnment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 332 N. Lauderdale St., Memphis, TN 38105 or the American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
