Don't forget this envelope

Please do not overlook this envelope in your packet for this weekend. Our retired religious men and women need your contribution.

By 2019, it is projected that religious past age 70 will outnumber those under age 70 by nearly four to one. Learn more about the retirement funding shortage.

Since 1988 when the collection was first taken up, Catholics in the U.S. have donated $617 million to this appeal. Nearly 95 cents of every dollar collected is used to aid senior religious.

Still, many religious communities fall short in the money needed to support retirement and elder care. Of 573 communities submitting data to the Retirement Fund for the Religious in 2009, fewer than seven percent of religious communities of the 573 communities reporting to the retirement office last year are fully funded for retirement.

Religious have long worked for small stipends that did not include retirement benefits. Their sacrifices now leave their communities without adequate savings.

Though retired these religious still are a powerful source of prayer.

If you are enclosing a check, please write RFR in the memo section.
