John P. Petrosek dies at 93

John P. Petrosek, 93, passed away peacefully on Nov. 6, 2010.

Born in Akron on August 15, 1917, John was a lifelong resident of Firestone Park and had attended Garfield High School. During World War II he served with the Army Air Corps in the
Panama Canal Zone. During his tour he was a welder and instructor. After the war, John worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber, retiring in 1980 after 42 years of service. At Firestone, he worked in Steel Products and in the Prototype Development Lab.

John was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and the Akron Jednota Club #523.

Preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Mary and brothers, Frank and Steve, he is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Ann (nee Filarsky); beloved son, Thomas (Sheri); and his brothers, Joseph and Tony.

John should be remembered for his friendly smile, his kindness to help others, and his love for his family. ``Dad, a day won't pass that we won't be thinking of you.'

Cremation has taken place. At the family's request there will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
