It was all dogs at annual pet blessing

It was all dogs at the annual St. Paul pet blessing Sunday afternoon at the Marian Shrine.  There were 15 or 20 dogs, but no cats, birds, snakes or other pets. The Rev. Fr. Matthew Ischay, who gave blessing and sprinkled holy water on each pet, suggested it might be just a little too cold for some kinds of pets.

He reminded the dog owners that Monday is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi who had a  love for all creatures. Francis wrote a Canticle of the Creatures, an ode to God’s living things: “All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures.”
