A Comfy Cozy Day of giving

St. Paul students wearing pajamas became partners today with the Open M ministry.

Students were given permission to wear pajamas, slippers and loungewear to class today if they brought in a donation of toiletries  for Open M.

Open M, founded in 1968, is a non-profit neighborhood-based, comprehensive ministry working in the community of South Akron to feed the hungry, care for the sick, nurture children, strengthen the community and build families.

Students enjoyed the Comfy Cozy Day for giving.

“I think all the students took part,” said Mary Ann DeKemper, the school secretary. “Everyone was in pajamas.”

Two tables were stacked with items and there were several boxes beneath awaiting delivery to Open M.   Students brought in toothpaste, toothbrushes, hair spray, soap, shaving cream, cotton balls, hand sanitizers and many other items.

“Collecting needed items for the disadvantaged really helps put a face on poverty for the youth.” said Dottie Achmoody, CEO of Open M. . “Doing such a kind deed is a win/win situation, the children giving receive a blessing as well as the children on the receiving end. This is a unique way for  St. Paul’s youth to share Christ’s love. Thank you for your kindness and the joy you bring to others through giving of yourselves. Thank you for your willingness to encourage others. Many Blessings”

OPEN M, founded in 1968, is a  non-profit ministry quietly meeting the challenges of life in Akron and expanded services for all of Summit County. The ministry has grown to include more than 100 churches and businesses in the community. It is unique in that it charges no fees for services and is not an administrator of governmendt contracts.  Most of the work is done by 700 volunteers with tools provided by chaitable donations such as those from St. Paul students today.
