Abe gives sendoff to long weekend

Abe Lincoln gave students at St. Paul a sendoff for a long weekend – and the school library benefited.

There will be no classes Monday because of Presidents Day so a Lincoln presentation was appropriate.

Gerald Payn of Wooster who is a full height Lincoln at 6 feet, 4 inches entertained students Friday
and collected pennies to benefit the St. Paul School Library.

Payn speaks in first person on a variety of topics including Lincoln and slavery, religion, politics and the Civil War.  He began presenting Lincoln in1999 after being inspired by James A. Getty of Gettysburg, PA, a  nationally-renowned Lincoln actor and Lincoln historian.

He is a life member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters.  He has his own collection of books, paper and memorabilia of Lincoln and has visited many places related to Lincoln.

His local appearances have included Hale Farm and Village..
