Elizabeth E. "Betty" (Charney) Jacobs
Elizabeth E. 'Betty' Jacobs, 92, passed away on January 13, 2010.
Born December 15, 1917 to the late Michael and Elizabeth (Kasarda) Chorney, Betty grew up in the Slovak mining community of Walhonding, Ohio for eleven years before moving to Akron.
She attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and School where she graduated in the inaugral eighth grade class. As an eighty year member of the church, she served as President and Secretary of
the Altar and Rosary Society, as well as a lector and a member of the choir until her health declined. After graduating from Garfield High School, she went to work at the American Hard Rubber, as well as Goodyear and Firestone Aircraft during the war years.
In 1941 she married the love of her life, George P. Jacobs, with whom she shared 47 years and three children until his death in January of 1989. Betty and George were longtime members of the Firestone Park Prime Timers, where Betty served as the Day Tour Director for eight years.
In addition to her husband and her parents; Betty was preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Bash, Mary Kisha, and Agnes Ondas; brothers, Michael and John Chorney. She is survived by her children, George David (Michelle) Jacobs, MD, of Perrysburg, Dennis Michael (Linda) Jacobs of Wadsworth, and Mary Elizabeth Jacobs of Akron; sister, Rosella Macko of Barberton; granddaughter, Emily Jacobs as well as four step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren; granddaughter, Kimberly Liska and great-grandson, Logan Liska.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church on Brown St. in Akron. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
