Claire Harbarger: Summit Woman of Year

She will serve another term as president
 
Women of the Year were honored at the annual Christmas luncheon of the Summit Regional Council of Catholic Women on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Guy's Party Center.  Claire Harbarger was the Summit Region Woman of the Year and Maggie Colant was St. Paul Woman of the Year.

Mrs. Harbarger has agreed to serve another term (her third) as president of the Summit Region. She presided at the luncheon and gave opening and closing remarks.  


Sandi Denholm of St. Paul, announced Respect Life fund gifts. Recipients were Community Pregnancy Center of Barberton, Mobile Meals, CYO& Community Services and CYO Adult Day Services, Battered Women’s Shelter, Open M., St. Mary Seminary, Religious Retirement Fund and Regina Health Center.

Money collected in envelopes at the tables will benefit the Christ Child Society of Akron, Lenora Hall Auxiliary and  Women’s Board Catholic Social Services of Summit County,.

About Claire Harbarger:

Claire Harbarger has been an active member of the Summit Regional Council of the National Council Catholic Women since 1985. She has held the office of President (1994-1996 and 2008-2010); First VicePresident, Second Vice-President, Past President/Advisor; Parochial Representative (two terms) for the Southeast Region; chaired two Christmas Luncheons, and has served in a variety of other capacities. 


Claire has served as President of both the Ladies Guild at St. Paul Church and the Ladies Guild at St. John the Baptist Church. 


She is a former Woman of the Year for St. John the Baptist Church and an active member of the Parish Council, the Liturgy Committee, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Daily Rosary Group. In the area of community and family concerns, Claire volunteered at St. Thomas Hospital during the time the Religious Sisters were there and for a while after they departed. Claire also volunteers every month to take Seniors from the Prime Timers Group on bus day trips and sometimes on cruises, in order to get them out and about for fun and games. 


Claire is happily married for over sixty years, to her husband Floyd. Together, they have celebrated the lives of five sons: Floyd Junior, David, Robert and daughter-in-law Arlene, Lee and daughter-in-law Beverly, and their youngest, Dennis. They have nine grandchildren (two adopted) and six great grandchildren (two adopted). Claire enjoys traveling, sewing and the company of friends and family.
