A dozen students and three grandparents have been inducted in the Mileage Club Hall of Fame at St. Paul School. Their “footprints” are enshrined on the Hall of Fame bulletin board to signify that each has walked at least 100 miles in the St. Paul walking club.
The Mileage Club, coordinated by Christine Ehasz, is a huge success. The program, which started in October, 2008, is open to both students and parishioners. Four days a week (Monday through Thursday) students arrive early at St. Paul's John Jenkins Gym to exercise by walking for fitness and fun with the Mileage Club. Cones are set up around the perimeter of the gym floor. Walking around the gym five times equals a quarter of a mile. Mileage Markers (yellow cards) keep track of each student’s progress. For each five miles (or eight kilometers) walked, the child is rewarded with a Toe Token (brightly colored plastic foot) to put on a chain.
It takes 1,600 trips around the gym to total 100 miles.
Inducted into the Hall of Fame were:
Grade 8: Brianna Motley and Jacqueline Wammes
Grade 7: Greg Brown, Austin Leslie and Michael Roberts.
Grade 6: Adam Bugajski
Grade 4: Meredith Wammes, Amily Effler and Angel LaPresta
Grade 3: Natalie Wammes, Nathan Dort and Austin Gayhart - 3
Grandparents inducted were Vi and Joe. Pappano, grandpartents of Jon and Ben Martin, and Mrs. Ellen Herman, grandmother of Zane Bellar.
