Campaign for Human Development Nov. 21-22
CATHOLIC SOCIAL JUSTICE THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
The annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is next weekend, November 21 and 22. CCHD is the domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the U. S. Catholic bishops. Its mission is to address the root causes of poverty in American through promotion and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations and through transformative education. Nearly 37 million people in the United States live below the poverty line, which is set at an annual income of $20,444 for a family of four. 13 million of the 37 million are children. 45% work full time but still do not make enough money to feed their families, keep roofs over their heads and pay for health care. This ministry for justice is rooted in our baptism and faith commitment. You can learn more about CCHD and all the wonderful programs that this annual appeal supports at www.usccb.org. We each need to make a prayerful decision on how we can help our fellow Americans in need; please be generous.
