St. John to close Oct. 31, other neighbors in 2010

One of St. Paul's neighboring churches, St. John the Baptist, will celebrate its final Mass on October 31 at 4 p.m,. Two other neighbors, Sacred Heart of Jesus on Grant Street and St. Mary at 750 S. Main St. will not close until next year.

A Beacon Journal article by religion writer Colette M. Jenkins on page B1 today provides a summary of the closings. The story is headlined “Countiong down the days” and features a photo at SS Cyril and Methodius Church, Barberton’s Slovak parish, which will be the first to close with a final Mass on June 14.

An overline notes that it is “A time to break down, and a time to build up.”
