Principal Rosemary Capotosto to say farewell


Rosemary Capotosto, who has been principal of St. Paul School since 1999, is leaving at the end of this school year.

She is expected to say her farewell to students after the 8:30 .a.m. student Mass on Thursday.

“Just watching children grow has been my greatest experience,” Mrs. Capotosto said. “
It is great to see former students who have become lawyers, doctors, pharmacists and in other professions. Knowing how well former students are doing is a delight.”

She maintains an abiding love for St. Paul.

“St. Paul has always been a very welcoming parish,” she said. “I always have found it heart-warming when parishioners come up to thank me for the environment provided by the school.”

She is proud of some of the improvements added at St. Paul during her tenure, such as Spanish and the walking club.


Her career has been a long and varied one touching many parishes in the Akron area.

Born in Akron to Stephen and Irene Keplinger, she spent her own grade school years at St. John the Baptist. Influenced by the Vincentian Sisters who taught at St. John, she entered their convent in Bedford. She attended Hoban Dominican High School in the Cleveland area and graduated in 1964. She attended St. John’s College in Cleveland.from 1965 tp 1967.

She began teaching as a cadet teacher in 1967, teaching two years at St. Mary in Bedford. She left the convent in 1969 and returned to the Akron area. She attended THE University of Akron from 1969 to 1971 and received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education in 1971. From 1971 to 1975 she taught third and fourth grade at St,. Hilary.

It was then she met Fred Capotosto who was born In Italy and came to Akron in 1960. They were married October 20, 1973 at St. John the Baptist. They lived in Akron for a year before moving to Tallmadge in 1974. Fred who was a machinist is now head custodian at Tallmadge Middle School.

From 1975 to 1983, Mrs. Capotosto, was a “stay at home” Mom.

Their daughter, Angela, was born April 6, 1975 and married Trevor Rednour, a Marine. They live in Quantico, VA, and have twin boys seven years old.

Son Sergio born November 17, 1976, is also a Marine. He and his wife, Marie, live in Beaufort, SC, where he is stationed. They have three children.

Son Roberto, born May 30, 1978, was just married in July, 2008. He and wife Danielle are graphic designers.

The Rev. Fr. John Jenkins hired Mrs. Capotosto as a first grade teacher in 1983. She taught first grade for three years, fifth grade for one year and English for grades 6-7-8 for eight years.

In 1995, Mrs. Capotosto received her master’s degree in elementary administration and was principal at Immaculate Conception in Kenmore from 1995 to 1999 when she returned to St. Paul as principal.

Husband Fred was a member of St. Anthony parish in North Hill when they married and they have maintained their membership in the ethnic Italian parish though they have lived in Tallmadge for 35 years.
