St. Paul Boy Scout Troop 81 was reactivated in a colorful unfurling of the troop flag and a “Crosover” ceremony. Four members of Cub Scout 3081, now old enough for the Boy Scouts, became the nucleus of the Scout troop.
The ceremony came at the end of the annual Blue and Gold banquet of Cub Scout Pack 3081 Saturday evening in Boeke Hall.
Crossing over the symbolic bridge from Cub Scouting to Boy Scouts were Marcus Bender, Adam Bugaski, Ryan Canan and Cole Macken. Scoutmaster of Troop 81 is Paul Hirsch. He gave each of his new Scouts a neckerchief and Boy Scout handbook.. They also received the Arrow of Light award in a candlelight ceremony.
Assisting in the unfurling of the flag were John Amedeo, the institutional representative, and Assistant Cubmaster Bill Canan, longtime Scouter who was master of ceremonies at the banquet. The Rev. Fr. Ralph W. Thomas, pastor of the parish, blessed the flag and congratulated the Scouts and their leaders for developing a strong Scouting program at St. Paul.
Hirsch and Cubmaster Tom Evans both gave talks on their goals for next year when Scouting will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in America. Canan will be among those Scouters in the Great Trail Council who are planning a big celebration of the anniversary at Camp Manatoc.
Special awards, including a Nintento game, were given to top sellers in fund-raising efforts which provide funds for various Cub Scout activities and provided the free meal for the banquet. Pack 3081 was the top seller in the TriFires District.
