Serra Club president Bill Wittenauer dies


CUYAHOGA FALLS -- V. William Wittenauer died Friday, January 30, at Akron City Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Youngstown, he was 75 years old and had lived in Cuyahoga Falls for 45 years.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent W. and Catherine V. (Walsh) Wittenauer. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Jo (McGlynn); son and daughter-in-law, John and Michele of Medina;
daughter, Mary Kay Rogers of Baltimore, Ohio, and her fiance Dean Bulmer; grandchildren, Joshua, Samantha, Ashley, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Robert, Allyson, and Andrew; sister, Bernice (Byron) Harnishfeger of Canfield, Ohio; brother, Joseph Wittenauer of Dayton; nephew, Byron W. (Beth) Harnishfeger llIinois; nieces, Denise (Stephen) Klucher, Phyllis (Michael) Manning, and Agnes (Jeffrey) Schauer; three great-nephews; four great-nieces; two great-great-nephews, and two great-great-nieces.

Bill was the founder of William Wittenauer CPA, Inc., in Cuyahoga Falls. He attended St. Vincent Prep and St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. and graduated from Youngstown State with a degree in accounting, a subject he later taught at YSU. He became a CPA in 1966. A member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Bill was active in numerous organizations. He was the current president of the Akron Serra Club and had been a board member of the Village of St. Edward, Catholic Social Services of Summit County, and the Akron City Club. He was also a member of the Guardian Society of St. Vincent College, the Shamrock Society of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Ohio Society of CPA's, and the Cuyahoga Falls Executive Club. He had also been active in the Catholic Youth Organization as a basketball coach.

Bill's family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home McGowan-Reid & Santos Chapel, (at 3rd st., one block north of Portage Trail) in Cuyahoga Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Father Thomas McIntyre Fund at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44223; St. Vincent College, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Latrobe, Pa. 15650, or St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, 15 N. Maple Street, Akron, Ohio 44303.
