Christine M. Abshire, 71, passed away on July 16, at Akron City Hospital.
Born in Mansfield, Ohio in 1936, Christine had been an area resident for over 50 years. She was a me
mber of St. Paul Catholic Church as well as AL-Anon.
Christine was preceded in death by her brother Gary Angebrandt. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Bill of Akron; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Mary of California, Samuel and Cheryl of Wadsworth, and Thomas and Jennifer of Springfield; daughter, Debbie Wallen of Akron; brothers and sister-in-law, Arnold and Martha Angebrandt of Hartville and John Angebrandt of Ravenna; sister, Elenore McGlaughlin of Akron; grandchildren, Jesse, Gretchen, Taylor, Merit, Sarah, and Erin.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home 95 W. Waterloo Rd. Funeral services will be held Friday, beginning at 9:30 am at the funeral home and continuing with A Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church. The Most Rev. Richard G. Lennon, Bishop of Cleveland, today announced that Sr. Therese Guerin Sullivan SP, JCL, has been named as Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland effective August 1, 2007. On that same date, the current Chancellor, the Rev. Ralph Wiatrowski will become pastor of St. Barnabas parish in Northfield ( Summit County ), the 10th largest in the Diocese.
Father Wiatrowski will complete 22 years as Chancellor. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1974. Bishop Lennon acknowledged Fr. Wiatrowski saying, “Fr. Ralph has been a blessing to our Diocese and I thank him for his truly faithful years of service as Chancellor.” Fr. Wiatrowski will be a Pastor for the first time and stated, “I was ordained to be a parish priest and I am delighted to serve as pastor of such a vibrant parish.”
Sr. Therese Guerin Sullivan entered the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary of the Woods, Indiana (Terra Haute) in 1959. Most recently, she has been serving as a Judge in the Diocesan Tribunal and is a member of the Diocesan Review Board serving as Canonist ---the expert in Church Law. She has also served as an elementary school principal and teacher along with her 20 years as a Canonist.
As Chancellor, Sister Therese will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Diocese and serve as Canonical advisor to the Bishop and the parishes. Regarding her new position, she noted, “I hope to bring an understanding of Church law and serve as a ministry of justice in support of the mission of the Church.”
